New Milton is a town of some 24,500 people situated on the south coast of England almost directly inland from the western tip of the Isle of Wight. The seaside resort of Bournemouth lies ten miles to the west, Christchurch is 5 miles to the west and the major port of Southampton is twenty miles to the north east.
To the north New Milton is bounded by the famous "New Forest". The western boundary of New Milton forms the Hampshire/Dorset county boundary. The eastern boundary of the Town roughly follows the Danestream between Hordle and Milford-on-Sea and New Milton.
The town is an interesting mixture of both rural and urban environments. The villages of Milton, Ashley and Barton have, over the years, expanded until they now form the town of New Milton. Bashley, situated on the town's northern boundary within the "New Forest", has not been as affected by development pressures as other parts of the town and still remains a relatively quiet rural village. With the advent of the New Forest National Park in April 2006, Bashley now falls within the National Park Boundary.
