CANCELLED – Official Play Park Opening Ceremony February 9, 2017

We are sorry but we have had to cancel the play park opening ceremony originally scheduled for Saturday 18 February 2017 on the Recreation Ground.

This is because the contractors are still working on minor remedial works, such as surfacing and drainage issues following recent inclement weather.

The play park is safe to use and we will shortly be announcing a revised date for the official opening, hopefully at the beginning of April.

Dementia Friendly Allotment February 8, 2017

nm dag logo

New Milton Town Council are proud to be working with the New Milton Dementia Action Group to enable a dementia friendly allotment for our community.   To make this happen we need some willing and able volunteers who are up for the challenge – to help set up the project initially, and/or volunteer at the allotment when it’s operational – hopefully in the spring.    This is an exciting and absolutely fantastic opportunity to assist our community.

New Milton Dementia Action Group want to involve the community and really need willing and able volunteers to achieve their goal this spring.

More importantly they want to know of anybody who would benefit from the allotment, enjoying the outdoor space, fresh air, and being in a social environment.

Please contact Sue Wiffen on tele. 07884 300641 email: suechef@live.co.uk or Joanna Hayward on tele. 01425 619120  email: joanna.hayward@newmiltontowncouncil.gov.uk

Email Issues February 2, 2017

Please be aware that we’ve been having a few on-going problems with outgoing and receiving emails.

We had a very complicated email server set up which has now been simplified but, while this is settling down a number of our incoming and outgoing emails have not been arriving.   (Something to do with our new server needing to establish its credentials.)

We are sorry if you haven’t received a response from us on any emails – please would you kindly re-send.

You may want to check your spam/junk folders as well.

Apologies if this has caused any inconvenience.   We sincerely hope it will be resolved very soon!

If you have any questions please let us know on 01425 619120.

Barton Common – extending the grassland restoration in 2017

New Milton Town Council is inviting the public along to the Friendly Dog Club on Long Meadow near Barton Common on Saturday 21 January 2017 to chat about plans for restoring more grassland on Barton Common in the next few weeks.

Last year up to one hectare of scrub was cleared and is recovering well with grasses and herbs coming in naturally- and a new footpath has become established across one new open area. People are encouraged to come along to chat about which areas to clear next.

There will also be an opportunity to talk about the grazing and cutting management. Last year the flowering plants responded fantastically to the grazing by New Forest ponies – walkers were treated to a fine display of Violets, Heath Bedstraw and Heath Milkwort in spring followed by up to 70 Heath Spotted Orchids in June. As autumn arrived the Common began to turn purple with the spread of heathers.

Local historian Nick Saunders will also be there to talk about the fascinating history of the area, and there will also be a chance to talk the Council about Long Meadow.

The Open day is from 10.00am to 3.00pm.
