The Town Council was delighted to be awarded Silver-Gilt once more in the Town Centre category recently announced at the prestigious regional South & South East in Bloom awards ceremony. There to collect the award on behalf of the Town was Mark Jeffries, Town Council Estates & Facilities Manager who received the Silver Gilt award at the Amex Centre in Brighton saying: “It’s another great result for us, with increased marks of 80% overall – just 5 marks off Gold. Once again, the team have done a fantastic job.”
This is the third time New Milton has entered the competition, achieving very high standards and increased marks in one of the Main Award categories. Cllr Geoff Blunden, Chairman of the Amenities Committee said:
“Over the summer months we received many compliments on how clean and tidy the Town looks – and how wonderful our flower displays are – not only from local residents but those visiting the area on holiday.
It is therefore an added bonus this year, we have been awarded Silver Gilt in the South and South East in Bloom ‘Town Centre’ category with increased marks. This could not have been achieved without the hard work and enthusiasm of our ground maintenance team and the local community involvement.
My thanks to all those who have helped in making New Milton look so beautiful, including…New Milton Residents Association, New Milton Sands WI, Barton Bees WI, Community Centre, local independent shops and the pupils from New Milton Junior School together with Arnewood School.
With the environment much in the news, it was particularly pleasing to see the variety of insects that our wildflower displays attracted and l even spotted butterflies on the more formal beds in Station Road! Again, my thanks to all those who helped not only with their time and effort but also financial support. I look forward to next year and continued success!”
