Annual Carol Service

The Town Mayor of New Milton, Cllr Alvin Reid, welcomed his guests to the Annual Carol Service on Saturday 7 December 2019, delighted that a packed congregation had joined him to celebrate at St Mary Magdalene Church.

Invited guests and the local congregation, totalling at least 200, joined the Mayor, Town Councillors and Civic guests, including dignitaries from Lymington & Pennington Town Council, and New Forest District Council, and representatives from local charity and community groups.

Reverend Andrew Bailey conducted the Opening Prayer, followed by a reading, beautifully delivered by Jackie Alvey, Chairman of New Milton Sands WI, who recited verse entitled The Meaning of Christmas.  Further readings were provided by the Town Clerk, Graham Flexman and Cllrs Keith Craze, Steve Davies and Neil Tungate.

The last reading of the service was presented by Angela Jackson, representing New Milton Residents Association, with an imposing rendition of Ring out Wild Bells by Alfred, Lord Tennyson.

The Voices of the Forest were the guest performers and treated the congregation to the twelve harmonies of Christmas.  The international collection of songs introduced by the Musical Director Fabian Lochner, featured their repertoire of Christmas songs from America, Russia and the New Forest, all perfectly performed, all delightful.
