Preserving our Heritage

Preserving our Heritage

NEWS RELEASE

New Milton Town Council and Milton Heritage Society, along with other local interested groups, have been working on the preservation of existing buildings of interest around New Milton.

Examples of these special buildings include:

Milton Hall The Milton Hall – Milton Heritage Society,

St Mary Magdalene Rectory,

and the Station Master’s House.

The working party are currently devising a Local List through the Neighbourhood Plan Review, which would celebrate certain buildings and their characteristics for hopeful retention. This action is already supported in principle by New Forest District Council. Further information will follow in the coming months.

We also have the new Blue Plaque scheme, where buildings of interest are marked by a circular plaque giving information on its history.

Cllr Steve Clarke, Chairman of the Listed Buildings Working Party said “We are mindful of the lessons learned from the past with the loss of the Speckled Trout public house, and appeal to local organisations to be part of attempts to retain the town’s built heritage.”
