Press Release – Arnewood School Tree Planting

Press Release – Arnewood School Tree Planting

National Tree Week is a time to celebrate trees and the incredible benefits, often taken for granted, they bring to our lives.  Creating oxygen, enhancing our environment, being a line of defence against pollution and climate change, and not forgetting providing home for an abundance of wildlife.

In celebration of National Tree Week, New Milton Town Council has donated two young trees to the Arnewood School which have been planted in the school grounds by members of the Arnewood School Young Leaders.

The Young Leaders picked up their spades and topped up on the planting of the Street Maple and Silver Birch trees.

These trees will also be plotted on the Queen’s Green Canopy map in honour of her late Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee. Map – The Queen’s Green Canopy (queensgreencanopy.org)

Presenting certificates to the Arnewood Students, Cllr Geoff Blunden, Chairman of the Town Council Amenities Committee said: “I was delighted to join the students from Arnewood School, launching the New Milton plant a tree season 2022/23.  Listening to the young people’s understanding of the importance of tree planting and the environmental benefits was very refreshing.  I’m sure they will remember planting these trees in the years ahead.”

Mr Nigel Pressnell, Headteacher of Arnewood School said:

“I am very grateful to New Milton Town Council who I have always found supportive of the town’s young people, in this instance engaging with students to promote ecological awareness and The Queen’s Green Canopy.  I am proud Arnewood Sixth students were chosen to participate in this poignant project to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.”

The Council are keen to keep the town’s green spaces green with trees, but also in supporting local schools and sharing with the community.   Schools are encouraged to take part in the Plant a Tree Initiative, involving students, teachers, staff, and families to maybe remember loved ones, or to honour previous pupils and teachers, or in celebration of an event or anniversary.

Now is the time to plant trees and it’s easy to participate!  Download the order form,  Plant-a-Tree-Initiative-2022-details-and-application.pdf (newmiltontowncouncil.gov.uk) complete and return to us as soon as you can.
