Statement on Local Government Re-organisation decision for Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Southampton and Portsmouth
The Government has announced their decision on the re-organisation of local government across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Southampton and Portsmouth.
Ministers have decided to create 4 mainland unitary authorities covering North Hampshire, Mid-Hampshire, South-East Hampshire and South-West Hampshire, plus IOW as follows:
*North Hampshire Council (current local government areas of Basingstoke & Deane, Hart and Rushmoor). Electorate: 407,465
*Mid-Hampshire Council (current local government areas of East Hampshire, New Forest, Test Valley and Winchester, less 11 parishes from the 4 areas including Totton & Eling, Marchwood, Hythe & Dibden and Fawley from the New Forest). Electorate:484,546
*South-East Hampshire Council (current local government areas of East Hampshire, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Portsmouth, plus 3 parishes from East Hampshire and 1 parish from Winchester) Electorate: 510,102
*South-West Hampshire Council (current local government areas of Eastleigh, Southampton plus 4 parishes from New Forest – Totton & Eling, Marchwood, Hythe & Dibden and Fawley – plus 3 parishes from Test Valley). Electorate: 582,137
*Isle Of Wight Council Electorate: 146,351
