Season’s Greetings

Message from New Milton Town Mayor, Councillor Alvin Reid

As the end of the year approaches, I would like to take this opportunity to send you all my very best wishes for a peaceful Christmas and a happy and healthy 2026.

Being Mayor has given me the opportunity to meet many members of our community and see the good works being carried out by groups and volunteers across all age groups.

The highlights for me this year included, The Harvest Civic Service in support of New Forest Basics Bank featuring a rousing performance by the Highcliffe Percussion Ensemble, the awarding of Citizen of the Year, Community Champion and the Mayor’s Commendations to outstanding residents of the town. It was particularly pleasing to see the opening of new facilities at Ballard Lake after a long period of works and improvements.

Finally, the year was rounded off with the Town Carol Service at St Mary Magdalene Church in support of my chosen charity, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. The service was led by our new rector, Rev. Jon Westall and featured inspiring performances by Tullagh Junior Strings Ensemble and the Ballard Chamber Choir.

The summer afternoons of music on the War Memorial Recreation Ground were very well attended this year with a good mix of artists. Residents and visitors to the town enjoyed entertainment provided by Wise Guys, Total Madness and Groovemeister.

One of the most important events of the year, Remembrance Sunday, was as usual well attended as the town gathered to remember those who fought for our freedom and the many who paid the ultimate price.  The Remembrance service in the Memorial Hall was focused on the impacts of WW2 on our wonderful town.

I am looking forward to more engagements in the coming few months and continuing to represent you as Mayor for the rest of my tenure.

Once more, please allow me to wish you the compliments of the season and all best wishes for the coming year.

If we all do a little, collectively we can achieve a lot.
