New Milton Town Mayor, Cllr David Rice-Mundy attended the Annual Service of Remembrance on Friday 10 July 2026 at the Indian Memorial in Barton on Sea.
The Annual Service had been arranged by the Friends of the Indian Memorial in conjunction with Milton Heritage Society.
Civic guests included the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, the Mayor of Bournemouth, Mayor of Christchurch along with the Leader of New Forest District Council and New Forest MP Sir Desmond Swayne TD.
Cllr David Rice-Mundy welcomed the many guests who had travelled from across the South of England to remember the Indian Soldiers who had been treated at the Barton Convalescent Home during WW1.
The Service was lead by Reverend Jon Westall. Callum Murray from Durlston Court School recited the Exhortation and the Kohima. Bugler Steve Chislett rendered the Indian Last Post.
Poonam Paranjpe recited the Hindu Prayer and Bill Chadha recited the Sikh Mool Mantar. Nick Saunders, Chairman of Milton Heritage Society, reminded us of the names of the Indian Soldiers who died whilst they were in Barton.
